taking a peek into my never ending queue...

carrie bostick hoge

This is a great cardigan called the Belfast Hoodie by Carrie Bostick Hoge. I love it!

I keep thinking about how great it would look with jeans in some kind of tweedy yarn with giant wooden buttons.

I don't have enough tweedy yarn in my stash to make this. All that really tells me is I need to start buying yarn in sweater quantities to help out my poor queue.

I mean really, who doesn't need 1500 yards of tweed in their stash?

So whats in your queue?

Here is a great sweater for the little people in my life. One little person in particular loves robots, and monster trucks and sonic the hedgehog. This pattern fits perfectly with the first love. Robots!

Today I have another mitten for you, although this one is of the fingerless variety. Oak Grove Fingerless Mittens are a lovely take on a theme that Alana Dakos of Nevernotknitting fame has explored with her patterns. I love mittens, she loves leaves. This pattern combines the 2.

We all know I know I have love affair with mittens. I like to knit them, I like to give them away, I even like to wear them (good thing since winter lasts a long time around here).

This pattern is a recent find for me, even though it was released in 2008. Phedre is a pattern by the infamous spillyjane (a canuck mitten knitting genius!). It's based on the books by Jacqueline Carey. I read this series many years ago when the Superstar was little. Warning to future readers: this is a graphic dark series. I loved it!

These mittens are a reflection of that darkness, from the black rose tattoo to the blood red mitten. They are perfect!

Today we are talking chickens. Yes. I said chickens. Knitted chickens to be precise.

Who wouldn't want a flock of these?

Now I don't think I'll ever have backyard chickens of my own (the real, egg laying variety) so I'll have to make do with these girls.

Seriously, I have a slight obsession with these knitted chickens.

Oh this sweater is haunting my dreams right now!

Aidez is a free pattern by Berroco. I've admired it from afar ever since it came out on Ravelry.

Especially since Julie over on knittedbliss made this stunning version.

I even went out and bought 2 skeins of Ecological Wool in cream.

They are sitting in my knitting basket waiting.

Impatiently.

Today we're taking a sneak peak into my never ending queue!

Hi there, today I thought I'd look at one of the toys in my queue. I love knitting toys. Especially ones created by Susan B Anderson! She does the most fun detailed little toys imaginable. I haven't knit one for awhile so I'm really feeling the need to cast on but I want to finish some items in my wip pile first!

This little elephant is super popular on Ravelry and a free pattern too! Elephante is knit with worsted weight yarn on 3.5mm needles. It's a great pattern to use up little bits of stash as it doesn't take much to knit one up.

I have so much yarn in my stash that would work for this toy. I may have to make a little army of Elephantes to use some of it up! How cute would that be!?!

*Snort! Sorry about the over use of italics in this post. It seems Blogger won't let me unstick the italics button!

Here is another shawl pattern that's floating my boat lately. Shaelyn is a light airy triangular shawl that is knit on 5.5mm needles with a DK weight yarn. I'll bet it will be fast knitting and that makes it an almost instant gratification kind of project. I love that!

This is another shawl that lends itself to darker colours (or maybe that's just me). I've seen some projects on Ravelry that are bright and vibrant, and some are soft and pastel. I tend to like the heathered greys and darker jewel tones.

I really love the lace sections in this pattern. I also like how easy it is to customize the size.

So what's in your queue?

I thought  I'd share one of the many shawl/wrap patterns I'm planning on making this year. This is a great pattern called Wandering the Moor. Every time I look at it I wish I was in Scotland wandering the moor.

I'm thinking of knitting this shawl with a rather rustic yarn in a dark colour. Maybe brown like the photo or maybe something shot with a bit of burgundy or purple. I always think of pictures like this...

got this off the web here http://www.google.ca/images?rlz=1T4RNWI_enCA266CA267&q=scottish+moors&um=1&ie=UTF-8&source=univ&ei=nGQKTfWdMpCjnQfRqd35Dg&sa=X&oi=image_result_group&ct=title&resnum=1&ved=0CCgQsAQwAA

when I think of the moors. I'm not sure how accurate that is but I sure hope to find out one day!

Today we're taking a sneak peak into my never ending queue!

Hi everyone!

I have a few more projects to share from my queue today. I thought I'd focus on mittens as I'm a bit obsessed with them at the moment. I'm in love with a number of patterns from Brooklyn Tweed.

He is amazing and suits my aesthetics perfectly. Simple patterns and  beautiful yarn create amazing hand knits. So here are a few of my Brooklyn Tweed "must knit" mittens.

This pattern is called #03 Green Autumn or Druid Mittens (guess which name I prefer?). It's found in the fall 2008 edition of Vogue Knitting Magazine. I love the cables and bobbles on these mittens. Druid calls for a fingering weight which means these are a bit labour intensive but so worth it.

This pair of mittens is actually unisex and looks amazing! I was originally thinking of B when I saw these but I'd almost like to knit a matching set for me. Corny I know, but oh, so fun!

These mittens are called Strago and are great because you can easily adjust the size by changing the yarn weight and/or needle size. I'm definitely buying this pattern in the new year!

I love this pattern! It's called Grove and I love the cables. Just love them! There is something about a wonderful cabley mitten that says cozy and warm to me, and that's very important here. While its nice to knit showy pretty mittens, if they don't keep your hands warm, they just aren't going to be worn.

Grove is knit in a DK weight on a 4mm needle. Not a bad weight for quick knitting. I can see myself knitting up a few of these as they also could work for a male or female.

Thankfully Ravelry is full of mitten groups and KALs (knit a longs) to help me with my mitten addiction. An unfortunate side effect is the addition of even more mitten patterns to my queue!

Happy knitting!

And hey! What's in your queue?!

Queue Revue

Today we're taking a sneak peak into my never ending queue!

Hi knitters! I thought I'd start a regular weekly post highlighting the many projects I have in my queue. A queue is a great feature on Ravelry that allows you to list (queue) the projects you want to knit and add information like yarn type, tags to help you sort and search, and any other notes you may want to add.

Everyone uses their queue differently but I use it to list the projects I want and  intend to knit. I try to keep it reasonable, like under 100 but it's hard! I also go through it now and then and purge patterns that I've changed my mind about. Eh, it happens.

I'll try not to overwhelm you this morning!

I'll start with a pattern I queued back in July of this year. It's called Web Spinner by Irene Johnston. I intend to make this for Mr. Man. In fact I've ordered the yarn and printed the pattern. I just need to finish off the seasonal knitting and get going!

I'm so excited about this sweater for so many reasons:

1. My little lad loves Spider-Man.

2. I think he will look wonderful in this blue blue sweater with his blue eyes and little person!

3. I'm really glad that this pattern calls for Knit Picks yarn which comes in a range of colours (extraordinary richness and so many to choose from) and is a reasonable, budget friendly choice. I wanted a superwash (so I bought Swish Worsted)  as Mr. Man is only 3.

4. I know he'll have grand adventures in this sweater.

Aren't these lovely? I can't wait to knit a pair in January. The pattern is also a free one called Sundagsvotter. These mittens are knit in a light fingering weight yarn and I happen to have the perfect yarn in my stash.

JoAnn, my coworker brought me yarn last year from New Zealand. I made these fingerless mittens that I wear almost everyday at work. She also brought me 3 skeins of lovely deep red merino in a fingering weight.

I decided to wait until January and include these in the NaKniMitMo KAL on Ravelry. This is a knit a long during January for mitten month. Bet you didn't know January is mitten month! They offer prizes and encouragement and fun throughout the month. I joined up last January and since I still have mittens in my queue, I'm doing it again this January.

These are my must do mittens for 2011!

I hope you enjoyed a brief glimpse into my queue!
